The best Reno area concerts. This week's picks...
Sunday’s pick: This is one of the better Sunday nights for shows in a long
while, so picking just one among these first three listed was difficult. But,
honestly, how can you not choose to see a band called Giant Panda Guerilla Dub
Squad? Beloved in the jam band world, this band from New York State are one of
the more credible and exhilarating rock-reggae bands out there, showing a real
reverence toward the music’s roots while still going out on a limb with it.
Whenever I hear a clone of Sublime or 311, I want to point ‘em toward these guys
to show how reggae and modern rock can truly co-exist. And not only that, folks
at this show also get to see revered Jamaican vocal trio Israel Vibration, a
pioneering ‘70s groups that fully explore dub sounds. $20 adv., $25 door, 6
