Reggae Update
By Chuck Foster
Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad offers contemporary reggae with an American slant on Slow Down (Giant Panda). Only one of the disc's 12 cuts is actually a dub: these are rock/reggae hybrids (imagine the Police backed by the Roots Radics) from a band that's gained experience on the road and performed alongside some of the giants of reggae. They convey a sense of urgency and offer all-original songs--on all-original riddims--like "Hiroshima," "On The Moon" and "Ginger Juice" that blend snaky rock guitar with bottom-heavy bass and drums augmented by a variety of keys.
